CPD Lesson Outline and Objectives

Part 1: Mastering Initial Consultations (50 minutes)

·       Introduction to Client Consultations

o   Overview of the consultation process, setting expectations, and building rapport, with a focus on the unique challenges new RCICs may face.

o   Transparency is key!

§  Abiding by Sections 6, 23(1) and 22 of the CICC Code from the first interaction with a client

§  Group discussion on other areas of the Code that relate to transparency

·       Practical Exercise: Drafting a Consultation Agreement

o   Using templates and examples, participants draft a consultation agreement that meets the requirements of Sections 23(1) and 23(2) of the CICC Code​​​​, tailored for a hypothetical first client scenario.

·       Discussion: Overcoming Initial Consultation Challenges

o   Strategies for managing common concerns of new consultants, such as standardising approaches, handling difficult questions, and establishing trust.

 

Part 2: Crafting Compliant Service Agreements (50 minutes)

·       Analyzing Sample Agreements

o   Breakdown of service agreement components with examples, emphasizing clarity, transparency, and client protection as outlined in Section 24(1)​​.

·       Workshop: Customizing Service Agreements

o   Interactive session where participants adapt a service agreement template for various client types, focusing on the nuances of different immigration pathways.

·       Real-Life Topic Discussion: Navigating Early Ethical Dilemmas

o   Case studies on ethical dilemmas specific to new RCICs, such as handling clients with complex cases or ethical concerns in agreement terms.

 

Part 3: Preparing Effective Submission Letters (50 minutes)

·       Submission Letter Basics

o   Examination of successful submission letter elements, tailored to the needs of new consultants handling their first applications.

·       Interactive Writing Workshop

o   Group activity to draft submission letters based on common first-client scenarios, incorporating feedback from peers and instructors.

·       Real-Life Scenario: Addressing Processing Delays and Follow-ups

o   Practical advice on communicating effectively with clients and immigration authorities during processing delays or when additional information is requested.

 

Conclusion and Wrap-Up (5 minutes)

·       Summary of key learnings, with an emphasis on practical steps for new RCICs to apply these insights with their first clients.

·       Final Q&A to address any lingering concerns or questions from participants.

·       Distribution of a comprehensive resource list, including templates, sample documents, and further reading recommendations.
